Those are the same issues all volunteer organizations face. I belong to one organization that we have a monthly meeting and provide lunch to our members. That does not help. We then instituted an attendance pot, $50 a month except for the month we have an annual conference we go to. You have to be in attendance to win the $50 and if you are not, the pot the following month increases by another $50. By our Christmas dinner which is for all members plus a guest for free, if no one has won the pot it will be won by someone at the dinner.

Neither ventures have increased our membership nor our attendance at the meetings or the Christmas dinner.

Back when I was president of BVARC in 1999, we faced the same issues and we had hot dogs and soft drinks for the members prior to the monthly meetings. Did not really increase the attendance at the meetings other than everyone was happy for the meal.

I know about 99 percent of folks nowdays work in marketing... we must have some
gurus in our BVARC membership...  :)
