You go, Eddie!

First, nothing changes if you don't try. Eddie's trying.

Second, I've only been a ham since 2004-ish and for the longest time, I was
pretty much the youngster at the various club meetings I went to, both in
the St. Louis area and here in Houston. I was barely 50 back then.

In the last 5 years, here in Houston and also on the internet, I've noticed
a lot of younger people joining and itching to participate in the hobby,
and even better, to participate in the community aspects, like clubs and
hamfests. Their enthusiasm is wonderful.

Sometimes, that enthusiasm needs tempering. Someone new and excited
doesn't have the knowledge of what's been done before, and may overestimate
the appeal of a new approach to bring people in. They may even forcefully
present a "new" idea that has failed many times before. But at the same
time, they need to be allowed to enhance our hobby with that energy. Also,
their very youth may help us attract and keep more younger members, which
is important to keeping the organization alive. Finally, many of those
"marketing" people are the younger ones.

Let's see if we can all work together and achieve the goals Eddie set for
us.

Thanks,
John KC9JLE
