>From what I've read, the fine is very well deserved.

He transmitted on an emergency frequency that he is not allowed to. He
repeated this for two days 8 times. He identified himself as "comms
operator", no call signs, no names. He had access to a phone, internet and
everything else. No one was in immediate danger that he was trying to
protect.

Rules are for a reason. And he just caused a fire chief to drop directing
the operations on the fire-site and drove to an air strip where he was just
to find him to tell him to stop in person.

I mean, if things like this start to hit the news then our privileges would
be questioned by people who would not understand the importance of HAM
operations. We're already trying to explain to the masses why vaccination
is important AGAIN, as if we're back in the 1800s, I don't believe we can
fight a misleading news campaign that tells/frightens people that HAM
operators are a danger to emergency operations. Not with how nowadays the
internet/social media loves to create misleading sensational news. We
should be careful in observing no interference rules but extremely more so,
on emergency frequencies and other mission critical frequencies. EVen if we
believe we're not causing any immediate harm, there is absolutely no reason
to jump into an emergency frequency and start broadcasting when you have a
phone on your hand.
