I'm 76 and no teen ager, but got my General, Technician, and Advanced a bit
over a year ago at age 75.
Method I used was to download an app on my phone, and take the test multiple
times a day when I had time.
Soon, you will be passing 100 pct of the time.   At that point, schedule your
test at BVARC.
I did each level a month at a time, but honestly as a teenager I would "study
up".   Once you have passed a level, you can test for the higher level at no
additional cost.
My background is mechanical, not electrical. but I did understand electrical
basics.  If the teen gets stuck on a question, he can ask someone or google.
Since all questions are in the pool, I found the tests to be quite easy !
