I recently purchased a SDRplay branded nRST-ST network ready SDR with the goal
of having it online and station at my RF quiet East Texas property.

Subject: [BVARC] Calling for SDR Birds of a Feather (BoF)

TL;DR
I am reaching out to anyone interested in SDR, EFHWs, battery operation, and
maybe even PoTA.

Howdy all,

First, many thanks to the member who corrected my on-air etiquette regarding
how I was breaking into a QSO to comment. I will do better! ;-)

Happy New Year to all. Did anyone get a shiny, new SDR rig for the new year? I
have an 8-band, uSDX+. It's yet another clone of the (tr)uSDX. I have found
about 11 or 12 clones of this design - white buttons, black buttons, orange and
blue buttons, grey buttons, HT, red corners, and orange top - lots of them.

The ones I have found use the uSDXOpen code, hosted on GitHub. With the Arduino
IDE, a very low-cost Arduino UNO, and a few jumper wires, I have upgraded my
firmware from 1.02 to 4.00d. Easy to do and a big improvement.

I have this paired with a small LiFePO4 battery and a QRPGuys 'No Tune' end-fed
half-wave. Using a linked stretch of electric fence wire (thanks, Big John), I
have made contacts on 20 meters and 40 meters. Crazy, but fun!

I am reaching out to anyone interested in SDR, EFHWs, battery operation, and
maybe even PoTA. I am happy to advise on any of these topics to the best of my
ability.

73's to all
