Greetings everyone! New member and a one-year ham here! I have a used Icom 7300, about 5 years old, that is experiencing random reboots when using the digital modes such sa FT8. With alll standard radio modes, mainly phone, there are no problems at all. When using FT8, and only during transmission, it will randomly do a hard reboot. The radio worked flawlessly for about 4-6 months after purchase and all this began.
I’ve used different USB cables, added bead ferrites, and most recently, I used some of the larger ring type ferrites, like the FT240-3, all with the same type of results. Most times it will work as expected for maybe an hour then start the reboots. Sometimes it just won’t work at all and immediately reboot on the first transmission. I’ve also used different computers and different operating systems. I’ve seemed to have isolated it to the radio itself. And most likely the USB connector. I download the service manual and determined that going in to reflow solder on the connector for me is a no-go. The buried surface surface mount connector is beyond what I’d care to work on. I’m not really interested in learning how to rework with a air station on something like this. Before I box it up and ship back to Icom for an expensive repair, and it’s of course, it’s out of warranty, does anyone have any other things I can check before I do? I fear that’s my only choice. Thanks!
