To all, Valentine’s Day is almost here, which means restaurants are fully booked, menus are mysteriously missing prices, and you’re about to pay $140 for a steak that whispers *“I was worth $32 yesterday.”*
Let’s stop pretending this is romance. Instead of a high-priced dinner, take your significant other to the *park for a DX expedition*. Yes—outside. With radios. On purpose. No reservations. No dress code. No valet. No waiter asking if you’re “ready to order” while you’re still processing the bill. Just you, your significant other, folding chairs, and the gentle sound of static punctuated by hope. Nothing strengthens a relationship quite like: - Setting up antennas in public while strangers stare - Explaining propagation *again* - Saying “just five more minutes” until the sun goes down You’ll save money. You’ll avoid crowds. And you’ll discover just how strong your relationship really is when conditions are poor and the battery voltage is dropping. Forget candlelight. Forget dessert. Forget restaurants that call themselves “rustic” to justify charging extra. Bring snacks. Bring a blanket. Bring patience. Because if your significant other survives a DX expedition and still speaks to you afterward, that’s not just love—that’s commitment. And when someone asks, *“So what did you do for Valentine’s Day?”* You’ll proudly say, “We went to the park. Made contacts. Didn’t need reservations.” P.S. BVARC is not responsible for injuries caused by guy lines, tent stakes, folding chairs, cold weather, sunburn, poor band conditions, unsolicited advice, or the phrase “this should only take a minute.” Results may vary. Relationships may be tested.
