Hi Nate, I just scored an ICOM 735 from Jeff, a club member, for $350. Please let me know if you get other offers for equipment!
I have a uSDX+ (white buttons) QRP unit. I have made contact with it on 20 meters and 40 meters. There are lots of variants, all based on the same design. See: https://youtu.be/3SF-0ApxCNg I use a linked end-fed half-wave, screwed to the top of the backyard fence, for these two radios. I start on one side of the fence and just keep going. There are linked breaks at 20 meters and 40 meters, and the full length is 80 meters. For 2 meters and 70 cm, I use my TIDRADIO H3 and an external antenna, set up in the back yard. I have made several different 2m antennas, including 1/4 wave ground plane, 1/2 wave vertical dipole, J Pole, broomstick/flowerpot, and Yagi. All were huge improvements on the rubber ducky that came with the HT. I set them up and take them down any time I use them. I am happy to share my notes on antennas! 73 Dan KJ5IZK On Fri, Mar 13, 2026 at 12:14 AM Comcast via BVARC <[email protected]> wrote: > Good morning all, > > Looking for a used HF transceiver or some ideas to get on the air and put > my general class license to use.
