Echoing that, last night under regular Ubuntu, I wanted to d/l his big brother (server iso.) I clicked on the torrent link on the main d/l page, it opened it up in some gnome/gtk torrent client, and started saving it to the desktop. I had to pause it about 1/3 the way in, then later I resumed it. After about 5 minutes, I had it. I inserted a blank CD-R, right clicked on the .iso and selected 'Write to Disk'. 2 minutes later, I had the server boot CD. I had previously recommended K3b, but this was so fast and unobtrusive, I think I am going to switch. Anyway, Edubuntu is the way to go, IMO, if we can get it to work on the minimum graduate machines, which according to rwc, looks like it does. I haven't checked out modem support, but it should be no different than regular Deb. One annoying feature: The audio in Flash on Firefox is intentially disabled (on Dapper/6.06). This is because of the competing audio standards and the maintainer removed a dangerous hack that previously made it work. You can re-enable it, but so far my efforts haven't yielded success. Note, on the CD install version, it works. but if you do an upgrade or update your system it gets disabled. Lots of flak flying on this in the dicussion boards. I am not sure if 56k d/l speeds is sufficient to play Flash or not. I recommend (at least so far,) Ubuntu server for the shop as well. It is an instant LAMP server and has a decent email configuration. We don't as volunteers have lots of time for configuration, and this is an install and go solution. I am presently playing w/it, so stay tuned. Ed -- Ed Howland http://greenprogrammer.blogspot.com ------------------------ Yahoo!
