Job well done, everyone!! Next week's graduate machines are all completed, labeled, and waiting in a corner of the shop. (Guess you guys will do *anything* for free food, huh? :-)
Next week Robert will be bringing in 9 cloned hard drives for the Compaq machines; the drives will be cloned from one we set up today, updating ALSA so the onboard sound chip now works. I want to take those cloned drives, put them in the Compaq machines we've got, install Conexant modems in them, get the drivers loaded and upgraded from the 14.4 free one to the 56k commercial one, and set up kppp with the CIN account info. Then we'll label them, and put them in a safe place ... and we are good to go for the next round of students. The main reason for this is because construction is about to begin on the shop, and it will be far easier to get the machines built, and safely housed, than it would be to try and build machines while construction is going on around us, and various bits and parts are being moved around. Besides, then we can all pitch in to help move things! And, once we are ahead of schedule on building, we can finally take the time to play with different distros, and hopefully get the shop servers up and running, too. Robert built an Edubuntu machine for Dave (teacher) to start monkeying with. I want a few machines available, for the shop volunteers to check out, and even hopefully for some of the kids to play with. The more feedback we get, the better. But ... on to the important thing ... FOOOOOOOOD. I am shooting for Saturday the 15th for our next volunteer barbecue. Again, I'll provide the main courses (vegetarian and carnivore), and hopefully others will bring in side dishes. Spouses, girlfriends, potential volunteers, all are welcome. And once more, good job, guys! Theresa ------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Sponsor --------------------~--> Yahoo! Groups gets a make over.
