I won't be able to teach the workshop this Saturday. I'll be in Texas visiting my brother.
Will Bill and others be available to help Caleb & Dominick w/their workshop project? They're supposed to be at Byteworks from 11:00 to 12:30 Status: * Both students are expected to bring a simple layout of their website drawn on paper. Plans for Saturday: * Allow students to play TuxType for 15 mins. * Review the layouts they designed (if they didn't do layouts, then suggest a simple layout -- Google "yard services" or something) * Create an "index.html" using Kate or a similar text editor. * Use just <html><body></body></html>. Don't worry about that stupid DOCTYPE junk. * Just show them basic HTML. Take plenty of time, and just use a text editor like "Kate". Use http://www.w3schools.com for help. Let them play around with different stuff. * Show stuff like bulleted list, bold, font sizes, (they like font size and color stuff) * Students should start putting actual content into their index.html * I do *not* recommend using something like OpenOffice.org yet. I think we should teach the basics first, then get into WYSIWYG later. * I wanted to give them USB keys so they can work on their pages from home. If there's time, show how to use USB keys (especially how to modify the index.html that's saved on their USB keys) Will Bill or anyone else be able to assist w/the workshop this Saturday? If not, that's fine -- I can call Caleb and let him know. Thanks, --Nate
