I would like to make a request for setting up some kind of network
file share that the student machines can access.

It would be immensely useful for the following purposes:

1) We could put the Scratch installer and other scripts on the share
for easy access.

2) I could put Scratch programs on this share. Students would then be
able to copy the programs to their computers instead of having to
download them from the Internet. The Internet is often slow when all
12 students access it at the same time.

3) I would like to have a place to put backups of the workshop
students' work. Any data on the student machines is succeptible to
being erased when student machines are reloaded. A central network
share would be ideal.

4) Many of the students ask if they can take home their work that
they complete in the classes. Since they don't have a USB key handy,
it would be nice to at least have a reliable place to store a
student's classroom work until they get their computer set up at home.

There is a wiki page about samba written by Sean.

I would be willing to donate a 40 GB external USB drive that we could
perhaps just plug into the instructor machine and share it. That way,
we're not sharing a portion of our server(s) filesystem.

What would it take to create a network share? Would a shared external
USB drive be a better way to go about this?

Thanks,
