A laptop was donated; I spent some time cleaning it up and getting everything up to date, and it's ready to be sold. I figure it won't last long in the shop -- we get a lot of requests for laptops -- so it was only fair to let the volunteers know first. Comparable machines are selling for $200, so that seems a fair price (comments, anyone?). Specs are:
Gateway Solo 5300CX Pentium III, 750 MHz 128MB RAM 20GB hard drive touchpad 1 USB port 1 broken PS2 port (broken as in, shoved into the case) 2 PCMCIA slots internal modem removable CD-RW drive (drive works but have not tested burning) removable floppy drive (works) Installed OS and software: XP Professional Microsoft Word 2000 Avast! Antivirus Picasa2 Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, Outlook) Comes with a scanner and software for it, a CanonScan N 650U. The scanner needs a USB cable but doesn't have one with it. The laptop is in a nice Gateway laptop bag, and has a working power supply. It was obviously being used with a wireless NIC, but that wasn't included. I used my own PCMCIA NIC to update it, but that won't be included with the machine, either. So you'll need to get a network card of some sort. One bit of oddness -- after running it for several hours (Windows update, download, install, reboot, repeat), I got an error during BIOS POST -- keyboard error 0211, which is a hardware failure. F1 to continue worked, booted into Windows, but the touchpad was not responding. Rebooted, same error, plugged in a USB mouse, and both USB mouse and touchpad were working, but no keyboard. Rebooted, without the USB mouse, got the error, both keyboard and touchpad worked. The next day, I did not get the error. Other than that, it's current on its shots and vaccinations, healthy, with a cold wet nose, and waiting for a new home! (slight exaggeration) If anyone is interested, let me know. Otherwise, I'll put it with the other computers for sale in the shop this Saturday. Theresa
