Xerces-C/C++ authors/developers,
I am managing a GPL-based project that uses the Xerces-C/C++ library. I
would like to be able to package Xerces-C/C++ libraries and/or source
with some of project's distributions (particularly on Windows systems).
However, Xerces' Apache license is incompatible with the GPL and thus we
can not distribute it with our project and will require our users to
acquire the library and/or source separately--causing the biggest
problems on Windows' systems.
Can Xerces-C++ offer GPL-based license to my project? If so, how can we
go about formalizing the logistics for such a thing?
Fyi, We have the same challenge with OpenSSL. However, this problem has
been addressed and managed by other parties as per:
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenSSL_exception>
I see no such things for Xerces-C/C++.
Its a bit more complicated for the Apache license. Take a look here:
http://www.apache.org/licenses/GPL-compatibility.html
the legal-discuss archives and mailing lists are a good place to go for
discussion on this subject.
An aside: is there a convenient, supported, and/or popular way for users
to acquire binary Xerces-C/C++ libraries to which we can point our users?
We have a downloads section that has some binary formats.
