Not true.  A non-100% ANSI standard compiler doesn't have to use main(). 
  For instance:  WinMain().

But starting from the beginning of a program isn't always the best 
starting point.  Especially when you start hitting 100,000+ lines of 
code, the beginning of the program becomes a moot point as most of the 
work will be done elsewhere in the program.
