Obligatory:  Upgrade your compiler.  VC++ 6 is ancient technology.

Tarballs only require something to extract them (e.g. 7-Zip is VERY 
useful).  If you can't install software on your machine, you could 
extract the files and put them into a ZIP file and upload that somewhere 
or just transfer them to a USB thumbdrive.

You could always roll your own log file library if you don't find 
anything suitable for your needs.
