Adding a couple more things about the post-processing to my earlier comments:
- the SMF repository initialization only needs to happen on the root archive, not on the main image - the skeleton area probably only needs to be copied onto the root archive - the copyfiles stuff should be replaceable with find/cpio invocations; I never got around to this in the Live Media kit, but it's the moral equivalent since the permissions will already be correct from the package installations.
