Incorporations are not the correct implementation - an incorporation is 
just a set of tied dependencies that don't actually cause software 
installation.  The more correct term would be a group package, and 
implemented as such it would meet most, or all, of the other uses you 
note below.

Indications from the IPS team are that faceted installation support is 
likely to deliver significantly later than this project, so it would 
have to be a future consideration.
