Rainer is providing the type of priceless customer feedback that most
organizations and projects would die for! Rather than shutting him
down (don't bring up these issues here) or blowing off his concerns
(we're still in development so we don't need to address these issues),
his concerns should be acknowledged and a plan made to address them.
To me, this sounds like a couple of paragraphs in the ips depo man page:

Start with Rainer's list of security issues to be avoided, segue into
Danek's and Dave's comments and suggestions, embellish
with Shawn's comments about it being a best practice that will
change as [list of bugs and missing features] are addressed,
and conclude with a couple of explicit command line/config file
snippits that can be copy/pasted by admins everywhere.
Rainer's not the only one who will trip over this, so spending some
effort now to avoid a future black eye seems prudent.
