Be careful with picking running the system binaries. The reason that
some of the binaries were from the build area was that it broke
otherwise. I think, the pick should be to use the binaries from the
build area but you will need to look into this more.

Running the same version of Solaris may not be good enough, we were
running S11 and building S11 and still had issues.


"Version" here is probably more correctly understood as "build". Honestly, either choice presents failure modes that are difficult to diagnose, but the one made here tends to minimize the likelihood of core dumps and the limitations of chroot. It conforms to the procedure we've established over the past two years (RE builds repo, image-updates build machine to it, then builds media), though, and thus keeps us on an overall more stable platform.
