Hi Jan,

A more comments, questions (mostly nits...)

I think it was in a response to one of Karen's questions where it was stated that this tool will only support freshly installed systems and zones or systems that have been un-configured. However I can't find anywhere in the document that this is mentioned. I think it's would also be helpful to either describe how we expect the system to be un-configured to prepare for the use of this tool or at least a pointer to this information in another document.

I agree. I will clarify that.
Jean is currently involved in research for unconfiguration mechanism,
once there is a document capturing chosen approach, I will put reference to it in this design spec.

Section 8.2 it might be good to mention here some of the reasons Python was chosen. It's probably enough to simply state that Python is the choice for better interoperability with the rest of CUD but stating this would be helpful.

Agreed - I will clarify that.

I think it was Dave that mentioned that we shouldn't use the domain name but the search domains only. This is correct for DNS but we don't appear to have anything in here for configuring NIS which is where a default domain would be needed. Are we skipping NIS for this tool and just expecting the users to do this through CR 6959149 mentioned in section 10.1?

We assume that SCI tool will provide configuration for additional naming services -
LDAP, maybe NIS.
We are mostly awaiting input from naming services team in this area. In particular
what naming services will be in scope and what kind of parameters should be
configured in SCI tool.

(nit in section 10.1 "in the form of sfm properties" "sfm" should be "smf")

Thank you for catching this. I will change that.

In Section 10.4 it might be good to add a pointer to the smf restarter project.

Yep. I will add that.

Section 13 we should talk about possible overlaps here with other tools. I'll take this off-line with you...

ok.

Other that that I don't really have anything that hasn't already been discussed other than to say this is really well done. Nice job!

Thank you !

Thanks!

Hello Caimaniacs,

first draft of System Configuration Interactive tool design spec
has been published for review:

http://hub.opensolaris.org/bin/download/Project+caiman/System+Configuration+Project/sci%2Dtool%2Dlatest.pdf

During this round, we would like to verify that the proposed
design fits the overall Caiman architecture and that we are
not missing any important requirements or features.

Thus the current version of document lacks details.
We will be elaborating more on them later after we verify
the overall vision.

Susan, if you happen to have cycles to take a quick look
and verify that we are on the right track from
zones point of view, it would be greatly appreciated.

Please provide your comments/feedback before COB Wednesday 9/22.

Thank you very much,
Jan
