Hi All,
On a freshly installed system, with 175b and SRU2, I issue a "sysconfig
unconfigure --destructive". Upon reboot and reconfigure with only a root
role/account, I find:
13211 2 drwx------ 2 60004 staff 2 Jan 12 00:19 /var/user/jack
There is no entry in /etc/passwd or /etc/shadow for the jack user anymore.
Does anyone know what this directory is used for?
It's secure, local, per-user storage. It should have been documented in
filesystem(5) as far as I remember, but that appears to be missing. At
present it is only used by some crypto pieces.
Shouldn't this get removed when I run "sysconfig unconfigure --destructive"?
Perhaps. The --destructive unconfigure of a user doesn't attempt to
search the system for any per-user artifacts other than the home
directory. Other things that might be lying around include cron jobs,
mailboxes, things under /var/tmp, and so on. I don't believe we claim
to remove all traces of a user ever having been configured on or logged
into a system.
You're welcome to file an RFE, anyway.
Dave
