Thank you God, Budda, The Universe, and every other representation of
the higher power for influencing Chris into making this post.
As explained in the previous post,
I'm in the process of re-writing my application to put all data related
functionality in the Models (where it used to be in the controllers).
>From reading the replies to the thread I was getting worried that this
was perhaps not the preferred way to do things and as such, even if it
made sense to me to do so, coding in a way which conflicted with the
cake community's accepted way of doing things adds an element of doubt
that is constantly in the back of my mind.
Chris empathised with me saying that neither way is wrong and although
that was reassuring, there was still the feeling that it wouldn't make
sense to code in a way that conflicted with the community standard.
Therefore I just went and looked at a few random Models and associated
Controllers from the code in the bakery to see what method the cake it
uses. To my dismay, the files I checked all seemed to use the
Controllers for most of the work leaving the models "clean". Seeing the
cakePHP Devs using this method was the most disheartening :-( (although
I only checked 4 Controllers and associated Models). I think gwoo
reassured me before that I was on the right track but there was the
possibility I had misunderstood.
I thought I had just wasted my last few weeks efforts altogether and
was looking around the room for something to throw out the window when
this post came in.
Talk about a Sigh of relief!!! I am not alone in the universe after all. Phew!
Thank you Chris for taking the time to put up that information. You've saved me the cost of a desk and a window.
Cheers,
Sonic
