@anasmughal: thanks for linking to your article - seems like a nice clean solution, but I'm (like others) wondering how it has worked out for you (?) Without having thought it through too deeply, I'm wondering what breaks where core Cake functionality is concerned and what benefits you have enjoyed. Something just tells me that if it was that simple to integrate a third party ORM without some sacrifices, it would be a be a no-brainer for the Cake team..."if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is" ;)
@mark: no apologies needed. Cake has made things possible that would have been previously out of reach for a lot of people - self included (I still remember my feeling of shock when I saw how easy it was to build my first scaffold app...a true "WTF, how cool is this" moment). Forums are a place to share ideas, and hopefully the end result is better products, and better, more sustainable code overall out in the wild...keep up the good work, and hopefully some of what's coming up in this thread can help advance your thinking about which areas deserve focus and how to continue to make Cake better (and thanks for participating in the discussion in the first place). I'd certainly be a supporter of decoupling the framework itself from the ORM layer (while retaining important core Cake goodness) as a roadmap objective though, and this would seem to be more in line with the spirit of the MVC pattern, at least perhaps from a purist's perspective...3.0?
