Two things come to mind here:

1) Cake uses whatever your web server uses (usually mod_rewrite with
Apache) to handle rewriting URLs.
2) Nothing suddenly stops working if you haven't changed anything.

I suggest you verify that your web server configuration hasn't
changed.  I can't imagine anything showing up in Cake that would
disable the rewriting of URL's...but I don't obsessively track SVN
updates (yet).
