@nate - Thanks for the response. I wasn't necessarily fishing for your reasoning, but I appreciate you taking the time and stating it explicitly nonetheless. I still find it slightly inconsistent that you can configure so many aspects of a model (such as table name, primary key, foreign keys and display field, for example) away from the stated conventions, but not those columns.
I didn't submit the ticket willy-nilly (although admittedly I should have included tests) - I submitted it because I thought it would be genuinely useful to folks stuck with legacy DBs but still wanting to use cake straight out of the box, and I tried to follow the methodology that was already established in the model for additional configuration. I don't think you'd be "crazy" to implement it (as mentioned, there are plenty of other configurable conventions at the model level - and in fact, this is one of the few explicitly hardcoded ones I saw), but obviously we differ on where the line gets drawn for convention. (And your line matters, not mine.) However, as you stated, those changes are admittedly minor and there are existing mechanisms for me to change the behavior to suit my needs without hacking the core code (and already have for the model, as shown above based on your example in the ticket, and I'm working with _beforeScaffold() at this moment to achieve the same automagic in scaffolds). And "slightly inconsistent" is no big deal - and I surely didn't (and don't) mean to make it sound like it was (or is) a big deal. Just a minor, minor grump amidst a plethora of so much cake coolness. :) Thanks again for your comments, and thanks for all the great work (the beta release was perfectly timed for our organizational needs). Minor grumps or not, this is a fantastic framework. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Cake PHP" group.
