Being someone who has spent a good amount of time writing some how-tos on the subject of ACL, I would be interested to know what part of it you are having difficulties with? I would be happy to write a tutorial to fill in whatever missing gap there is in the existing knowledge base.

ACL used to be much more difficult to learn, because the syntax and rules were not well documented yet. But the official documentation on ACL is pretty accurate now. However, keep in mind that very recently there was a bug in the Core that caused the ACL component to fail in a MySQL 4.1 environment.
