Hi Thomas, As Marcin said, it isn't really a matter of anyone's opinion, other than that of the core team. We actively encourage test-driven development, and we actively encourage people to contribute to the framework, particularly in the form of test cases. Therefore, we include the tests.
Generally speaking (and directed at no one in particular), I really don't see the point of getting all worked up over stuff like this. Disk space is measured in the dozens or hundreds of gigabytes, and bandwidth is measured in the dozens or hundreds of megabits per second.
