Hello Rajshree, Shortening is a solid vegetable fat product, similar to margarine although margarine is softer. For this recipe, I am sure you could use better with great results. Granulated sugar is white sugar. And Confectioners sugar is very fine white sugar that is a powder, almost the consistency of flour. Hope this helps! Trish
