                Chocolate Cake with Peanut Butter Frosting

  1 2/3           cups  sugar
     3/4           cup  Land O'Lakes butter -- softened
  3                     eggs
  1           teaspoon  vanilla
  2               cups  all-purpose flour
     2/3           cup  unsweetened cocoa
  1 1/4      teaspoons  baking soda
     1/2      teaspoon  baking powder
     1/2      teaspoon  salt
  1 1/3           cups  milk
                        frosting
  1                cup  creamy peanut butter
     1/2           cup  Land O'Lakes butter -- softened
  2               cups  powdered sugar -- sifted
  2          teaspoons  vanilla
  3        tablespoons  milk (to 4 tablespoons)

Heat oven to 350F.  Grease and lightly flour 2 (8 or 9-inch) square or round 
cake pans.

Combine sugar and 3/4 cup butter in large bowl.  Beat at medium speed, scraping 
bowl often, until creamy.  Add eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla; continue beating 
until well mixed.  Add flour, cocoa, baking soda, baking powder and salt to 
butter mixture alternately with 1 1/3 cups milk, beating just until blended.

Pour batter evenly into prepared pans.  Bake for 30 to 40 minutes or until 
toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.  Cool 10 minutes.  Remove from 
pans.  Cool completely.

Meanwhile, place peanut butter and 1/2 cup butter in small bowl.  Beat at low 
speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy.  Add powdered sugar, 2 teaspoons 
vanilla and enough milk for desired frosting consistency.

To assemble cake, place 1 cake layer onto serving plate.  Spread 1 cup frosting 
over top; top with second layer.  Spread remaining frosting over top and sides 
of cake.
