Preheat oven to 350 F (180 C) Beat the sugar and oil, and graduallly add the eggs While beating, add the flour, salt, cinnmaon and cloves, intermitantly with the applesauce. mix the baking soda with the water, and add to the batter Pour into greased round pan, and arrange the apples on top.
