Armenian Nutmeg Cake

1 Cup S.R. Flour
1 Cup Plain Flour
1 Teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
125 Grams Butter
1 1/2 Cups Brown Sugar -- Lightly Packed
1 Teaspoon Bi-Carb Soda
3/4 Cup Milk
1 Egg -- Lightly Beaten
1/2 Cup Walnuts Or Pecans -- Chopped

Grease 20cm30cm lamington pan. Sift flours and nutmeg into large bowl, rub in 
butter, mix in sugar (or process these
ingredients until crumbly.) Press 1 1/2 cups of this mixture into prepared pan. 
Stir combined soda and milk into remaining
dry ingredients with egg and nuts, mix well, pour into prepared pan. Bake in 
moderate oven about 35 minutes. Stand 55 minutes
before turning onto wire rack to cool

Recipe can be made 2 days ahead.

NOTES : Armenian cooking is noted for its flavours and its use of spices. In 
this recipe nutmeg adds fragrance and taste to a
not-too-sweet cake that cooks in 2 layers, it is very popular with children.
