WILLIAMSBURG INN DATE NUT POUND CAKE

1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
6 eggs
2 c. sifted all-purpose
flour (reserve 2 Tbsp. to
dredge the dates)
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. orange flavoring
1 tsp. lemon flavoring
1/3 c. chopped pecans or
walnuts
1/3 c. chopped dates

Have all ingredients at room temperature. Preheat oven
to 325 degrees. Grease and dust with flour a 9 1/4 x 5 1/4 x 2
3/4-inch loaf pan or 9-inch tube pan.
Cram butter and gradually add sugar. Add eggs one at a
time, beating well after each addition. Sift flour and baking
powder together and gradually stir into the egg mixture. Add
orange and lemon flavorings. Then stir in pecans or walnuts
and dates. Spoon into prepared pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 70
minutes if loaf pan is used and 60 minutes if tube pan is used.
Cool in pan 10 minutes, then finish cooling on a rack.
