Quite a few of the old-time songs have lyrics. June Apple, Fly Around My Pretty Little Miss. Sandy Boys and more. Some of our old-time bands sing along after the caller drops out -- works fine for a contra, but it's not such a good idea for a square (grin).
There are even a couple that the dancers sing, too. Going down to Cairo (which is a regional, Missouri & Southern Illinois, song) is popular. And of course there's a section in Nail That Catfish to a Tree where the dancers all "oo-ooo-ooooh" along with the music.
