Interesting thread.

I have considered doing something like this myself...but have not followed through. Personally, I have my own standards:

- Whatever is done with vocals on stage would have to be at a very high level of performance. No half-hearted effort would be sufficient. It would have to be very smooth, polished, and endearing. - The venue and dancers would have to allow for this kind of thing. I don't see this happening at an open public contra dance. This is a special event or festival type of performance.
- Obviously the band and caller would have to work very closely together.
- More than enough is probably too much. Verbal vocalization requires a level of concentration to participate in and would be a distraction even to listen to. Do people attend contras to sing or to listen to singing? This could preclude some socialization activity on the dance floor that is a reason people attend.

These are my own personal concerns. On the other hand, done with heart, enthusiasm, and bravado you might be able to pull this off without much preparation. I am more cautious than many other callers.

Hi all,

A friend asked me if there are contra dances whose associated melodies/tunes have lyrics.

Suggestions?
