Because the people who feel uncomfortable with "ladies/gents" or
"men/women" will be happier.  That's basically what it boils down to,
making this a more inclusive community.  Of course, because we have a
heteronormative and cisgendered society, there will be plenty of people
uncomfortable when we're not using gendered terms, can't please everyone.
