I think traditionally even 5.6+ -only things shall be ifdef'd. I am sure 5.7+ things *should* be and the code should compile with 5.5.
(Assuming we're targeting LTS distros and alike that may even have 5.3, which is a reasonable minimum required by calligra master now.)
