On December 31, 2008, Tea Banh, the ministry of Defense, promoted 70 officers
to the rank of 1-golden-star general, The Cambodia Daily reported. In March of
2006, Tea Banh indicated that 643 officers occupied the rank of 1 to
4-golden-star generals in Cambodia. This number would provide a ratio of 1
general per 179 soldiers. In comparison, in 2004, the entire US army counts
only 876 generals, i.e. 1 general per 1,346 soldiers.
