UN Passes Strong Resolution on Cambodia Human Rights Abuses Feb. 27, 1982 : UN Commission on Human Rights meeting in Geneva adopted a resolution condemning Vietnam’s occupation of Cambodia as a violation of Cambodian human rights. The vote was 28 in favor, 8 against, and 5 abstentions. Oct. 21, 1986 The UN General Assembly adopted a resolution A/RES/41/6, by vote of 116-21 with 13 abstentions, calling for a withdrawal of Vietnamese forces from Cambodia. IT'S IMPERATIVE FOR VIETNAM TO COMPLY WITH THIS UN RESOLUTION. Speaking at the ceremony, the Cambodian premier said the presence of the Thai deputy prime minister today showed up what we held talk with each other, and what we work together, adding that this was a fruitful cooperation in a partnership between the two neighboring countries. I have a great ambition, he said, my ambition is to turn the former battle field into a development area, adding that I want the borderline areas with Vietnam, Laos and Thailand to become a friendly and cooperative border for the development. Thai deputy prime minister said the project of the highway can not go, if there is no Cambodian premier because he is a person who has a long perspective on the determination of the development. Thai people and I treated the highway as a symbol of friendship, strong alliance and duration existence between the two countries, he said. The road, linking from Siemreap province to Anlong Veng district in Thailand’s sharing border province of Uddor Meanchey, was constructed with a loan of 38 million US dollars provided by Thailand and a fund of 4.5 million dollars by the Cambodian royal government.
