Greeting “Cambo” Clan, especially KC: I have scanned over countless of postings about April 17, 1975 with such a heavy heart and not being able to find an accurate Khmer or English word to express. Although the mourning period has passed but our personal grieving will always stay within all of us, perhaps until the day we all leave this ugly world. We are left to rationalize why us, what have we deserved to be alive while most of our kin were indiscriminately cut-down like wheat at the prime of their lives, and what part of HELL these dark-monsters came from.
KC, I feel exactly how you felt Brother, you and I used to travel that road from Takhmau to Saang surrounded ourselves with deadly arsenal of all types and calibers. It is heart-wrenching for me to know that this time around you and your family had to walk this trail of tears empty- handed while the dark-monsters pointing their guns at your head. However, one redeeming resolve for all of us the livings is to swear once and for all that this kind of savagery will not take place again ever in the motherland, whatever the price may be. For me the saddest thing of all is that a number of Khmers are still not keen enough to sense what has hit them broadside or do not care to find out. Some others are outright cynical about all of this, they are making mockery of all of us who are just trying to reconcile with reality. One recent example: my friend was talking to a senior Khmer gentleman here in town, while both were watching a video clip about Khmer monks, and civilians being harassed and beaten by Cousin Xen’s police. He asked this person what he thinks. His reply was “Oh, it doesn’t bother me, because at least in PPenh under CPP and Cousin Xen I can still find good places to eat Kuy Teav!”. My friend snapped back, “In Ho Chi Minh City there are much better places to eat Kuy Teav than in PP, but our kinfolks Khmer Kampuchea Krom wanted none of it, they are willing to risk their lives and limbs to remain as Khmer, may be you should trade place with them instead!” There are always morons like this in every surviving Khmer community around the world, I categorize them in the following manner: The IGNORANTS: Hopelessly in the dark for most of their entire life from birth, but can still change if they get off their asses and get informed. The INDIFFERENTS: Have the capacity to know right from wrong, but since there is only sacrifice and no incentive in standing up for truth, so they opt to just hide. The SELECTIVE-AMNESIA or FAKED-ALZEIMER TYPES: Know right from wrong, but evil is so tempting, so they make a deal with the devil and sold their soul. Worse they prevent others from bring truth to light. The TRAITORS/COWARDS: Possess all the above characteristics, plus being highly opportunistic, very manipulative, with insatiable greed for reward and power, hopelessly shameless, choose to hide behind their masters while feeding frenzy still last. Last but not least they are born utterly coward, with no backbones. I am talking about people we once knew to be relatives, friends and classmates who went to serve the Viet and CPP in exchange for meaningless title and tin-soldier ranks. Some of you CPP & Associates, FUNCINPEC and such, come on out, you know who you are…….! Let me help you with this word of wisdom “A COWARD DIES A THOUSAND TIMES BEFORE HIS DEATH,……. A SOLDIER DIES ONLY ONCE……….” Taken from Shakespeare’s play “Julius Ceasar”. Let’s salute all the Passings and the Livings who were and are TRUE PATRIOTS!!!!
