I've met a Khmer Republic army soldier here. He was a farmer from Siem Reap and was only 17 years old when he joined the army(1970). I am not sure that he'd studied the viet and khmer history since he barely can read/write Khmer. In the other hand, Pen Sovan, Hou Yun, Hu Nim and those who sided with Hanoi/VC were well aware of the Viet/Khmer history, especially Ho's plan for IndoChinese federation. Personal greed or interest will always take priority over Viet/Khmer history. Their(later ones) mentality is "Whatever it takes".
