==>OPINION<== This US Senate resolution 271 is in the category of "simple resolutions". This is how US Senate "simple resolutions" are defined:
*"Simple resolutions are designated H.Res. and S.Res., followed by a number. A simple resolution addresses matters entirely within the prerogative of one house, such as revising the standing rules of one Chamber. Simple resolutions are also used to express the sentiments of a single house, such as offering condolences to the family of a deceased member of Congress, or it may give "advice" on foreign policy or other executive business. Simple resolutions do not require the approval of the other house nor the signature of the president, and they do not have the force of law."* This simple resolution was authored by a Republican Senator who recognizes that his party got a big beating in the polls during the 16-day of US government shutdown. Therefore in order to redress themselves a little bit, especially among the American-Asians who heavily voted Democrats during the last presidential elections, he has tried to do something to soothe the anger of the American-Asian constituency, but I am convinced that he knows very well what a "simple resolution" could not do vis-à-vis the executive branch or the White House. By the way, this simple resolution 271 is not unique, in the history of the US Congress with regards to Cambodia. ==>Please draw your own conclusion.<=== On Thu, Oct 24, 2013 at 1:02 AM, Khmer Forum <[email protected]> wrote: > *Forwarded...* > > > ---------- Forwarded message ---------- > From: CNRP WA <[email protected]> > Date: Thu, Oct 24, 2013 at 12:52 AM > Subject: SEEKING SUPPORT FOR SENATE RESOLUTION 271 - Introduced 10/16/13 > > Dear Respected Khmer-American Democrats, > > We need your supports to advance democracy and fight for social justice in > Cambodia. > > Therefore, please open the attached file and respond to the appeal below > and pass it on to your families and friends as far as possible. > > Thank you for your continued support. > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- > > > *Sincerely yours,-** ** **ដោយការគោរពរាប់អាន!!!* > > > > *Cambodia National Rescue Party of Washington Team* *(CNRP-WA Team)* > > *ក្រុមការងារគណបក្សសង្គ្រោះជាតិរដ្ឋវ៉ាស៊ីងតោន* > > Email: *[email protected]* > Phone: 206.850.7565. > Facebook: Facebook.com/CNRP.WA > Website: WWW.NationalRescueParty.org > > For those who do not wish to receive this email, please let us know. > > > ----- Forwarded Message ----- > *From:* Saumura Tioulong <[email protected]> > *To:* > *Date:* Tue, 22 Oct 2013 04:45:48 +0700 > *Subject:* GENERAL MOBILIZATION FOR SENATE RESOLUTION 271 - Introduced > 10/16/13 > > Dear All, > > Please help organize a campaign of support to Resolution 271 on Cambodia. > Please ask as many Cambodian-Americans as possible to write to their > Senators and ask him/her to support Resolution 271 on Cambodia, introduced > by Senator Graham on 16 October 2013.
