I'm sure there's someone out there that can go into greater detail about the
theoretical aspects of the different lens types but plano-convex means the
lens is curved only on one surface the other is flat--Planar. I suspect
that for simple lenses there's not a great deal of functional difference in
a box camera at small apertures, but at f/8 or larger the double convex
would be my choice. Depending on the desired image size you may be better
off to salvage a lens from an old camera, most of the lenses on even the
cheapest of old cameras would be doublets or triplets that combine two or
three lenses (lens elements) to create a lens with better imaging
properties.
