Many of the List Members attended the first biannual 1999 Alternative
Photographic International Symposium (APIS) in Santa Fe, New Mexico. It was
from all accounts a bang-up affair. This year's line up is also looks
exciting. I am particularly looking forward to Dr. Hans Bjelkhagen's
presentation on the Lippmann photographic process which won the 1908 Nobel
Prize in physics. APIS 1999 by all estimates was the largest assemblage of
alternative photographers held in the 20th Century; APIS 2001 promises to
be the largest so far in the 21st Century. (So far being only 10 days old!)

APIS 2001 is part of the PhotoArts Santa Fe photo festival and will be held
at St. John's College. PhotoArts will feature shows, lectures, workshops
and events all over town during the week of July 6-15. Since this year's
APIS event has about the same space as the 1999 event seats will be
extremely limited. APIS 1999 was a sellout and we expect APIS 2001 to be as
well. Early registration is advised. (We committed to the smaller space
before we got PhotoArts Santa Fe off the ground.)

And not to worry, Jan Pietrzak will be again organizing the extremely
popular blind print exchange.
