I have a Durst 4 X 5 color head that fits on my Durst 283 5 x 7 enlarger and
want to revise the light source to cover its 6x6 inch opening so I can print
full frame 4 x 5 and/ or panoramic 2 1/4 negatives. It seems easy enough to
remove the inset light box and put larger pieces of translucent white
plastic on top and bottom, but I was wondering about how important the
highly reflective interior is in maintaining light intensity and evenness of
illumination.
The cone that extends to 4x5 has an interior that is polished aluminum with
a near mirror-like finish. I thought I might remove the aluminum cone and 4
x 5 box, and simply paint the entire interior of the remaining rectangular
black box white or silver chrome enamel. Or I might glue cut mirror pieces
around the interior.
Does anyone have suggestions of pros and cons for white or chrome paint or
mirrors; or, other materials or techniques to use that would work better?
Is silvered mylar or something else available, and if so, where? Are there
other factors I should consider, such as the heat from the 250 watt light
source, etc, on these materials?
