Hi: The point source idea has been around for many years and can be made
to work very well indeed. I first came across it in the early 1960s in a
flight simulator projection system. A zirconium arc lamp was the light
source and no lenses were needed to project the roughly 135 degree wide
circular image into a spherical overhead dome. Zirconium arc lamps are
still available but I've forgotten where.
bye, sid.
Wow, sounds exotic. (Read: Expensive) What sort of voltage/current is needed
to run a Zirconium arc lamp? I have only seen carbon arc lamps, and not very
many of those. If I recall correctly, (Not a sure thing) there are fumes to
be dealt with when using an arc lamp. Is the same true for Zirconium arcs? An
interesting idea, would love to hear about any experiences anyone has using
one of these for photography.
