Lyndon's bascially correct. But here are some points: the supper D and series d's
wired for flash make it possible by setting the shutter to "O" (opened) and using hte
mirror as a shutter. Mirrors goes up, exposing the film from bottom to top, trips the
shutter automatically at the top of it's travel, shutter starts to drop, firing the
flash as soon as it starts moving, and closes from top to bottom. Problem is uneven
exposure��bottom of film (top of picture) will get lots more light. maybe okay in a
dark room with flash. But you still have that darned mirror thwack
If you're using a speed graphic shutter, you set it to "T", trip it, fire the shutter,
and trip it again way to slow for anything but still lifes in near darkness. Oh boy.
No, I think the only way is to modify the shutter. I've done the measurements to do
this, and there's room (Physically) on a speed graphic to have a full frame opening
wound entirely up onto the upper spool before trippping adn end up entirely wound
onto the lower spool after tripping. I don't know yet if this allows enough pre-run
for the shutter to get up to speed. Even if not, this shouldn't be too much of a
problem with flash, but if it is, we can enlarge the spool with foam tape and
sacrifice some over all curtain length. this will allow more curtain for each aperture
setting.
