I built an enlarger with 1/8th inch door skin. used a 3 inch diameter pipe for the post, slid up and down by friction. used several pieces of translucent Roscolux #115 "light rolux". above that was the lamp housing, a large aluminum sheet affair with a porcelain lamp socket and 150 watt bulb. Below was the filter drawer for 6 inch filters (too small for 4x5, I think), then the negative stage, and a sliding mount (telescoping tubing: I built mine from 1/8 ply, cause it was there) for the lens boards.
