Hey all,
I am a machinist, and I agree that a cutter for a
router would be the easiest way to cut the teeth for
the rack. Hand filing involute teeth would be a drag!
As long as your spacing is right on, this should be no
problem. Perhaps a combination of the box finger joint
jig with the form cutter (router bit) might be the
answer. The actual pinion is another story, but, if
you had an involute cutter of the right size for your
rack you then have to find a machine to use it in.
(Not too many wood gear hobbers that I know of).
Or plan B, make a bucket full of the wood assemblies
and sell them to us!
