I won't pretend to understand all parts of these plans, but please explain 
the first one a little bit more:  Why would you want to expand the 1/8" slit 
to full frame (presumably, this means a 5" long opening in the curtain)?  
Doesn't the shutter already have an "O" position in which the entire film 
area is exposed at once (i.e., a 5" X 5" opening in the curtain), and 
couldn't you modify the actuating mechanism so that this "O" opening moves 
continuously rather than stopping in open position, and provide a pair of 
contacts which close when it is fully open?  Perhaps the answer is that the 
movement of the "O" slit is too slow because it is at the low-tension end of 
the curtain...?  RKS
